The President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, has enjoined Super Eagles to focus on winning remaining matches of the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

President Benjamin who led teeming Sports Journalists to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, venue of the match against Rwanda, said no efforts should be spared in ensuring that Nigeria secure spot at the forthcoming Mundial.

The SWAN President, speaking via a statement by the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, on Saturday, upon arrival in Uyo, from Asaba where 9th National Youth Games is taking place, said the country’s Senior Men Football team will surely not lack support as all stakeholders including the sporting media are committed to using their platforms to engage Nigerians home and abroad.

He said, “Today’s match, and against South Africa in the coming days are very crucial. Nigerians are already in high spirit, everything is set and we are hopeful that despite the odds, things will turn out in our Favour at the end.

“It’s never over till the round of matches are completed. Some of us might be skeptic but I’m still optimistic that Nigeria will make it to the World Cup.

“This is because missing two consecutive World Cup won’t be an easy pile to swallow. In all, I wish our Super Eagles success outings.”

Nigeria’s match against Rwanda is scheduled for 5pm, Saturday, inside Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

On Tuesday, the Super Eagles will face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at Bloemfontein.
