Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government witnessed another bold step in proactive governance as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe, yesterday, March 17, 2026, hosted a high-impact Community Workshop on Flood Risks and Evacuation Procedures.
The critical engagement, organized in collaboration with the City of Lagos Extreme Water Events Early Warning System, C40 Cities, and the Lagos State Ministry of Environment – Office of Drainage and Water Resources, underscored the administration’s unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and property through forward-thinking environmental strategies.
The workshop, which brought together key stakeholders, community leaders, and residents, was designed to deepen awareness on flood risk evaluation and management, while strongly promoting community participation as the cornerstone of sustainable environmental protection.
Representing the Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Omobolanle Magbagbeola and Mr. Akinwunmi Babatunde delivered compelling messages urging residents to take collective ownership of flood prevention efforts. They emphasized the importance of proper waste management and responsible disposal practices as vital tools in mitigating flood risks.
The representatives also commended the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, for his visionary leadership in initiating the project, describing it as a timely and strategic intervention aimed at preventing flood-related crises across vulnerable communities.
In his presentation, the lead facilitator, Mr. Muyiwa Adedina, outlined the core objectives of the initiative, which include saving lives, minimizing environmental and infrastructural damage, and strengthening community resilience. He highlighted the project’s community-embedded approach, noting that its design ensures alignment with local realities, thereby enhancing effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
The workshop recorded strong government presence, led by the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Noheem Oluwa alongside other cabinet members. Also in attendance were Ms. Ebisuwa Tinuola, Head of Department, Education, Mr. Saheed Dabiri, Head of Department, Agriculture, as well as a broad spectrum of community stakeholders and residents.
Speaking through his administration’s actions, Hon. Akindipe continues to demonstrate that governance is not merely about reacting to challenges, but anticipating them and equipping the people with the knowledge and tools to respond effectively. This initiative further reinforces his people-centered leadership and commitment to building a safer, more resilient Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
