Azuka Chiemeka has been handed another mandate to continue his leadership of sports journalists across Nigeria’s South-South region, following his unopposed re-election as Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The Deputy General Manager of News and Current Affairs at Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Warri, retained his position at the 2026 SWAN National Triennial Delegates Congress in Kaduna, earning another three-year term in office.
For many stakeholders, Chiemeka’s return is more than an electoral victory; it is a vote of confidence in a leader whose influence has helped sustain the voice and relevance of sports journalists across the South-South zone.
Over the years, Chiemeka has remained a prominent figure in sports journalism and administration, providing representation for the zone at the national level while contributing to conversations around members’ welfare, unity, professional standards and the advancement of sports journalism. His position also gives the South-South zone a strong voice within SWAN’s National Executive structure.
His unopposed return sends a clear message of confidence from within the association and presents another opportunity to build stronger relationships among the South-South chapters, encourage professional development and deepen the role of sports journalists in the region’s growing sports ecosystem.
As he begins another three-year tenure, expectations will be high that Chiemeka will consolidate the gains of his previous term and continue to provide purposeful leadership for sports writers across the South-South.
For Azuka Chiemeka, the mandate has been renewed. For SWAN South-South, the task now is to build even stronger, speak louder and move forward together.
