For Hon. Adewale Adeogun, politics has never been detached from service. His public journey is anchored on a simple philosophy: give the people opportunities, invest in the younger generation and leave every position better than he met it.
That philosophy has followed him for more than four decades, beginning in 1984, when he started his career as a Sports Officer in a school.

As Education Secretary of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, he brought his experience and passion for sports into the administration of education in the district.
One of the notable achievements associated with that period was Ajeromi-Ifelodun’s success in the Principal’s Cup, where the district recorded victories in both the male and female categories.
For Adeogun, those victories represented more than trophies. They demonstrated the power of organised school sports and what could be achieved when young people were given structure, encouragement and opportunities to compete.
It also helped strengthen his relationship with schools, teachers, parents, pupils and community stakeholders — a network that has contributed significantly to his political goodwill.

Adeogun’s political capital has largely been cultivated through years of interaction with ordinary people and institutions at the grassroots.
His experience as an education administrator, local government secretary and education-sector stakeholder has placed him in contact with communities whose major concerns include education, youth development, employment opportunities and social advancement.

Following his Lagos experience, Adeogun moved to Ogun State, where he served as Secretary to his Local Government.

Today, he serves as a Member of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, giving him another opportunity to contribute to policies and programmes affecting basic education.
His membership of the Governing Council of Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, further reflects his continuing engagement with education at the national level.
His public-service journey has therefore evolved from the school sports field to local government administration and into wider education governance.
Sports as a political instrument for unity
Adeogun’s latest ambition could potentially give his public-service philosophy an even wider platform.
He is currently planning the Renewed Hope Unity Cup Football Competition for Primary Schools in Nigeria, an initiative designed to combine grassroots football with education and national unity.
The proposed competition is expected to commence with an opening ceremony, while the closing ceremony is planned for the National Stadium in Abuja.
For Adeogun, the concept goes beyond football.
A national primary-school competition can provide young pupils with opportunities to interact across communities while encouraging discipline, teamwork and healthy competition.
It also reflects his long-held conviction that the development of Nigerian children must involve both the classroom and the sporting field.
A call for strategic partnership
Adeogun is also looking towards a partnership with Chief Yemi Idowu, whose investments in sports, education, infrastructure and philanthropy have positioned him as an important grassroots development stakeholder.
The proposed partnership is significant because both men appear to share a common belief: young people require opportunities, facilities and mentorship if their potential is to become productive capacity.
Chief Idowu’s support for grassroots sports provides a potential platform for strengthening the Renewed Hope Unity Cup and expanding its reach.
For Adeogun, bringing credible private-sector and philanthropic partners into the initiative is also a recognition that government alone cannot carry the entire burden of developing Nigeria’s sporting infrastructure and young talents.
The politics of impact
