The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) today inaugurated its Sports Contact and Mobilisation Sub-Committee, bringing a 19-member team of sports personalities and stakeholders into the party’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration took place at the APC Secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja, Lagos, as part of the wider inauguration of the Lagos APC campaign council.
The sports committee is headed by Lekan Fatodu, with Bolaji Yusuf as Deputy Head and Bose Kaffo as Secretary. The full committee comprises 19 members drawn from different areas of Lagos’ sporting community.
The development gives the campaign structure a dedicated platform for engaging the sporting community — a constituency that extends far beyond professional athletes and young footballers.
The significance of the committee lies in the reach of sports across Lagos society.
From grassroots athletes to parents, coaches, former players, sports administrators, women’s teams, community clubs and spectators, sporting activities provide common meeting points for people across generations and communities.
For this reason, the committee’s proposed engagement is not necessarily limited to youth mobilisation but all inclusive. Women, men, parents, older residents, athletes, sports workers and community stakeholders all form part of the wider population that interacts with sports and reaching out to them all is a strategy to win in Lagos state.
This broader perspective would make sports an avenue for conversations around grassroots development, school sports, facilities, talent identification, athlete welfare, women’s participation, sports entrepreneurship and community recreation.
The committee features personalities including Bola Sodipo, Mutairu Segun Ogunbayo, Shakiru Bababunmi, Akinyemi Afolarin, Waheed Akanni, Tunde Oyedeji, Oyeola Oyelade, Sheriff Hameed, Gafar Olawale Illiameed, Jide Williams, Sanmi Doherty, Adebanji Atewogboye, Hon. Lanre Lapejo, Wole Oladunjoye, Segun Osinaike and Nurudeen Bamidele alongside its three principal officers.
Their inclusion provides the committee with contacts across different segments of the sporting ecosystem.
PBAT/KOH Campaign Structure
The committee identifies its campaign activities with support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) and Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat (KOH), while the wider Lagos APC campaign structure has been announced ahead of the 2027 elections.
The released campaign structure lists Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Chairman, with Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as Deputy Chairman, while former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro is listed as Director-General.
Today’s inauguration therefore marks the formal commencement of the sports committee’s role within that broader structure.
The inauguration at the ACME Road Secretariat is consequently more than the unveiling of another campaign sub-committee; it establishes a dedicated structure through which the APC intends to engage Lagos’ diverse sporting constituency during the political season.
