Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has said that top European clubs will still want Victor Osimhen in the future, but explained why Premier League teams stayed away from signing him this summer.
“The real cost of signing and keeping Osimhen is around €187 million,” Oliseh said.
He broke down the cost, saying Osimhen’s wages are a major issue:
“His salary is €15 million net per year, which is about €28 million gross annually. Over four years, that’s around €112 million just for wages.”
According to Oliseh, this financial burden was too much for many Premier League clubs.
Speaking on Osimhen’s rumored move to Galatasaray, he said:
“It’s unfortunate, but it seems Osimhen is going to Galatasaray because the top Premier League clubs didn’t go for him this summer.”
“If they really wanted him, they would have made the investment. Osimhen made it clear he wanted to join a Premier League club. Even Didier Drogba and Mikel Obi tried to convince clubs to sign him.”
Oliseh added that this doesn’t mean they won’t want him in the future:
“He scored 37 goals last season. Clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal are desperate for a striker. It’s surprising they didn’t go for him now, but the future is still open.”
