*EX SUPER EAGLES CAPTAIN BEN AKWUEGBU BACK IN AUSTRIA; SET FOR CHARITY CUP TOURNAMENT TODAY
The wait is finally over as former Super Eagles forward Benedict Akwuegbu looks set to appear for former club Sturm Graz in a Charity Cup Tournament.
The four-day tournament which kicks off today in Graz ends on 30th December, 2025, and will bring together eight teams made up of former players from leading European clubs, including Bayern Munich, Rapid Wien and Admiral Wacker.
Akwuegbu previously spoke of his excitement about reuniting with supporters in the city where he enjoyed some of the most memorable moments of his playing career.
“It will be a fantastic reunion with the fans in Graz, I hope to relive the form I showed when we won the league title, the FA Cup and the Super Cup.”
The tournament has been divided into two groups. Group 1 features Bayern Munich, Rapid Wien, Admiral Wacker and the Croatian national team, while hosts Sturm Graz have been drawn in Group 2 alongside Old Violets, GAK and St. Pauli.
Akwuegbu is expected to spearhead the Sturm Graz attack when they face St. Pauli in their opening group match on December 27.
Organisers anticipate a crowd of at least 4,000 spectators, who will be treated to the return of several well-known names from European football. Other invited stars include Kulovits, Bazina, Junuzović, Liendl and Sabitzer.
It would be recalled that Ben Akwuegbu scored 10 goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria between 2000 and 2005.
