Members of Team Nigeria to the 2nd edition of the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship (AYSC), have touched down in Nairobi, Kenya.
Team Nigeria left the country, Monday, on the wings of ASKY Airlines, via the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, ahead of the highly anticipated event.
Nigeria, who are the defending champions, are featuring a 7-member squad to the biennial event, consisting of 4 males, captain Sufyan Olojoku, Abdulqudus Aliu, Prestige Archibong and Hassan Olojoku, and 3 females Sophia Ekeruche, Eliana Igbe, and Joy Nwabuzor.
President Toke Aka, who is leading the Team to to Kenya, stated that he is fully convinced the team dominate the championship.
The captain of Team Nigeria, Sofyan Olujoko, also assured Nigerians that the Team will retain their title they become the first and only nation to win the prestigious event.
Olujoko also expressed confidence in his teammates, emphasizing that finishing second best is not an option.
Joining her voice in conviction of Nigeria’s dominance in the word and mind game is the oldest girl on the team, Joy Nwabuzor. She stressed that she alongside her teammates will reaffirm Nigeria supremacy in Scrabble
The Africa Youth Scrabble Championship (AYSC) is a biennial continental competition for young scrabble enthusiasts, organized by the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), and is scheduled to take place from August 14th to 17th, 2025, at Brighton International School in Syokimau, Machakos County.
The championship will feature two categories: Under 15 and Under 19, with 150 players from 11 countries expected to participate.
