The Royal Organising Committee for the forthcoming Gombe State Emir’s Cup Football Competition has appointed coordinators to oversee activities across the 15 emirates, chiefdoms, and traditional councils participating in the tournament.
The coordinators were inaugurated during a ceremony held at the Medical and Health Workers Union Secretariat in the Federal Low Cost area of Gombe.
Chairman of the Royal Organising Committee, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, led the proceedings alongside the Vice Chairman, Auwal Umar, and other members of the organising committee.
According to the organisers, the exercise forms part of the final preparations for the competition, following the successful trophy tour conducted across the 15 emirates, chiefdoms, and traditional councils in Gombe State.
The Gombe State Emir’s Cup Football Competition is designed to promote peace, unity, and talent discovery at the grassroots level, while also strengthening cooperation among traditional institutions across the state.
The newly appointed coordinators and their respective emirates, chiefdoms, and traditional councils include:
Umar Garba Kenya – Nafada Emirate
Aliyu Lamid – Funakaye Emirate
Muhammad Musa Baba – Akko Emirate
Ibrahim Mohammed Suleiman – Kaltungo Traditional Council
Hashimu Ibrahim – Gombe Emirate
Salisu Shuaibu Umar – Dadiya Traditional Council
Ibrahim Manzo – Pindiga Emirate
Sani Babayo – Tula Traditional Council
Hassan Bebeto – Gona Emirate
Abubakar Magaji – Dukku Emirate
Sharu Garba Sidi – Yamaltu Emirate
Kudemcy Abubakar – Deba Emirate
Babawuro Mohammed – Cham Chiefdom
Jamilu Rabiu – Tangale Chiefdom
Ibrahim Yahaya Sambo – Waja Chiefdom
The committee explained that the coordinators were selected through a transparent ballot process, where each participant randomly picked the emirate, chiefdom, or traditional council they would oversee during the competition.
As part of the competition arrangements, four centres have been designated to host the preliminary rounds of the tournament. These include Bajoga, Deba, Gombe, and Kaltungo.
The committee also disclosed that the draw for the competition will take place soon, alongside a training programme for referees on the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for the tournament.
In his remarks, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe urged the newly appointed coordinators to demonstrate professionalism and work closely with football teams within their jurisdictions.
He advised them to guide participating teams on the rules and regulations governing the competition to ensure a smooth and credible tournament.
The committee chairman also warned that any coordinator found violating the regulations of the competition would be summarily dismissed, emphasizing the importance of fairness and discipline in the organisation of the Emir’s Cup.
The upcoming competition is expected to attract widespread participation and serve as a platform for discovering young football talents across communities in Gombe State, while also strengthening peace and unity among the state’s traditional institutions. ⚽
