    This one is not speculation.

    There is an investigation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, are investigating the utilisation of a reported ₦12 billion Federal Government intervention fund connected with outstanding players’ wages, allowances, bonuses, coaches’ salaries and other national-team obligations.

    The question is straightforward:

    𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐃 π“πŽ 𝐓𝐇𝐄 β‚¦πŸπŸ ππˆπ‹π‹πˆπŽπ?

And until the investigation is completed, the responsible answer is equally straightforward:

    We do not yet know.

What we can do is follow the documented trail.

    π‰π€ππ”π€π‘π˜ πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ’ β€” 𝐓𝐇𝐄 πŒπŽππ„π˜

The Federal Government approved approximately ₦12 billion to address outstanding financial obligations associated with Nigeria’s national teams, including coaches’ salaries and players’ allowances and bonuses.

At the Nigeria Football Federation, the administration in office was led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, with Dr. Mohammed Sanusi serving as General Secretary.

    The amount was substantial.

But substantial money should produce substantial documentation.

    Approval.

    Transfer.

    Receipt.

    Payment.

    Beneficiary.

    Voucher.

    Bank record.

    Reconciliation.

    Audit.

That is the trail accountability requires.

    𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐒𝐓 πŸ•, πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ” β€” 𝐓𝐇𝐄 ππ”π„π’π“πˆπŽππ’ ππ„π†πˆπ

The law firm Cromwell & Okeke submitted a Freedom of Information request seeking access to financial records and utilisation logs relating to the reported ₦12 billion intervention.

The request was received by the NFF on August 11, 2026.

𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐒𝐓 πŸπŸ–, πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ” β€” 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐅𝐅 π‘π„π’ππŽππƒπ’

The NFF answered through a letter referenced NFF/LEG/10/1/879.

The letter was signed by Onoja Joshua, Esq., on behalf of General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

The federation said the requested records were already with the EFCC and ICPC because the matter was under investigation.

    That changed the question.

    This was no longer simply:

    Where are the records?

    It became:

    𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 π€ππ“πˆ-𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐓 π€π†π„ππ‚πˆπ„π’ π…πˆππƒπˆππ†?

    𝐓𝐇𝐄 πˆππ•π„π’π“πˆπ†π€π“πˆπŽπ

Reporting on the investigation said some NFF officials had been invited, had provided statements and were on administrative bail while inquiries continued.

Administrative bail is not a conviction.

Being questioned is not proof of guilt.

    An investigation is exactly that:

    an investigation.

But an investigation involving ₦12 billion in football-related public funds deserves a documented ending.

As of the public material reviewed for this report, I have not located a court charge, arraignment, trial judgment or conviction arising specifically from this ₦12 billion investigation.

    The public status therefore remains:

    πˆππ•π„π’π“πˆπ†π€π“πˆπŽπ πŽππ†πŽπˆππ†.

    𝐍𝐎 ππ”ππ‹πˆπ‚π‹π˜ π‹πŽπ‚π€π“π„πƒ π‚πŽπ”π‘π“ ππ‘πŽπ’π„π‚π”π“πˆπŽπ π˜π„π“.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 ππ”π„π’π“πˆπŽππ’ 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 πŒπ”π’π“ 𝐁𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃

How much of the reported ₦12 billion actually reached the NFF?

    When did it arrive?

    Into which account?

What was the approved expenditure schedule?

    How much went to players?

    How much went to coaches?

How much went toward inherited obligations?

Which vendors or third parties were paid?

    Who authorised each transaction?

Were all payments supported by vouchers, invoices and beneficiary records?

    What did EFCC find?

    What did ICPC find?

    Were any funds recovered?

Were any transactions referred for prosecution?

And when will Nigerians see the final investigative outcome?

    Those are questions.

    They are not accusations.

But questions involving billions of naira cannot simply disappear.

    𝐍𝐎 πŽπ”π“π‘π€π†π„.

    ππ”π’πˆππ„π’π’ 𝐀𝐒 𝐔𝐒𝐔𝐀𝐋.

    𝐍𝐎 π€π‚π‚πŽπ”ππ“π€ππˆπ‹πˆπ“π˜?

Football pays the price when accountability fails.

    Players wait.

    Coaches wait.

    Grassroots football waits.

    Youth development waits.

    Facilities deteriorate.

    Public confidence dies quietly.

    And another administration arrives.

    π€π‚π‚πŽπ”ππ“π€ππˆπ‹πˆπ“π˜ πƒπŽπ„π’ ππŽπ“ πŒπ„π€π πƒπ„π‚π‹π€π‘πˆππ† ππ„πŽππ‹π„ π†π”πˆπ‹π“π˜.

    It means establishing what happened.

    It means following the money.

    It means completing investigations.

It means prosecuting where the evidence justifies prosecution.

It means clearing people where the evidence does not.

And it means putting the final record before the Nigerian public.
