The much-anticipated 2026 1XCup Football Tournament got off to a thrilling start on Thursday at the Inspire Sports Arena, with football enthusiasts treated to exciting action, breathtaking skills and attacking football as 11 goals were scored across the opening four matches.
The grassroots championship, which has leaved up to its reputation as one of Nigeria’s biggest amateur football competitions, with players displaying exceptional talent, tactical discipline and an unrelenting desire to make an early statement.
The opening fixture saw host side Inspire SA edge Da Faria SC 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter. Both teams created several scoring opportunities, but Inspire SA held their nerve to claim the first victory of the tournament and secure the opening three points.
The second game produced the first dominant performance of the day as Oworo United FC brushed aside Turf Season Tigers 3-0. Oworo United thrilled the spectators with swift passing movements, clinical finishing and a solid defensive display that left their opponents with little room to respond.
Perhaps the most entertaining contest of the day came in the third fixture, where Dosu Joseph FC announced themselves as genuine title contenders with a commanding 5-1 victory over Ikosi FC. The encounter produced six goals, making it the highest-scoring game of the opening day. Dosu Joseph FC’s attacking prowess, creativity in midfield and ruthless finishing delighted fans and sent an early warning to other teams in the competition.
The final match of the day was another closely fought affair as Crusaders FC secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory against Synergy Ultimate. The winning side showed resilience and defensive discipline to protect their slender advantage until the final whistle.
In total, 11 goals were scored in the four matches, highlighting the attacking intent of the participating teams and setting an exciting tone for the weeks ahead.
Football lovers, scouts and club officials present at the Inspire Sports Arena applauded the quality of play, noting that the tournament has once again demonstrated the immense football talent available at the grassroots level in Lagos and Nigeria.
