Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, has described the ongoing Super Six pre-season tournament as a major platform designed to give Nigeria’s continental representatives the competitive edge they need ahead of their CAF campaigns.
Owumi explained that the tournament provides participating clubs with valuable competitive matches, allowing players and coaches to sharpen their fitness, tactical understanding and team cohesion before the new NPFL season gets underway.
The initiative is particularly significant for clubs representing Nigeria on the continental stage, as the timing of the tournament gives them an opportunity to fine-tune their preparations against quality opposition.
According to Owumi, the NPFL and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) deliberately created the platform to ensure the clubs are adequately prepared for the demands of continental football. Recent reports confirm that the tournament is being used to provide participating CAF clubs with at least four competitive matches from the group stage through the final.
With the final scheduled for August 23 in Jos, the Super Six is shaping up as more than a pre-season competition—it is a strategic bridge between domestic preparation and Nigeria’s continental ambitions.
