The 1XCup 2026 is set to celebrate a remarkable milestone on Wednesday when Young Strikers FC of Lagos Island face AMA Smile FC of Ikorodu in what will be the 100th game of the tournament series.
Beyond the result on the pitch, the fixture represents a significant moment in the story of a competition that has steadily transformed grassroots football into a major platform for young talents to showcase their ability.
Young Strikers FC come from the football-rich Lagos Island axis, an environment renowned for producing players with technical quality, competitive character and an instinct for the game.
AMA Smile FC, representing Ikorodu, equally arrive from a community with a growing reputation for developing ambitious young footballers through grassroots structures.
Their meeting therefore carries a wider meaning: Lagos Island against Ikorodu, two football communities meeting at a historic point in the 1XCup journey.
Reaching 100 games is also a statement about the scale of the tournament. It means hundreds of players have been given competitive minutes, coaches have been tested, grassroots clubs have gained visibility, and young footballers have had an opportunity to place themselves before scouts and football stakeholders.
For grassroots football, the milestone demonstrates what can happen when organisation, competition and opportunity come together. Every match becomes more than 90 minutes—it becomes another chance for a player to be discovered, another club to gain recognition and another community to participate in the football economy.
The 100th game could also become one of the defining moments of the competition’s success story, adding another layer of excitement as the tournament moves deeper into its decisive stages.
Credit must therefore go to the 1XCup organisers and partners for sustaining the competition, maintaining its momentum and creating a platform capable of reaching this landmark.
On Wednesday, Young Strikers and AMA Smile will not simply play another game. They will play the 100th chapter of the 1XCup story—and grassroots football will be watching.
