Ogunlende, Gafar Lead Array of Dignitaries as ₦3 Million Battle Begins August 15
The ancient town of Badagry was brought to a standstill on 5th of August 2026, as football stakeholders, political leaders and community influencers gathered for the explosive press conference and draws of the 6th edition of the RAK/Badagry Divisional Football Association (BDFA) League, a tournament that has rapidly become the heartbeat of grassroots football in Lagos State.
The magnificent Badagry Local Government Secretariat turned into a football parliament as the cream de la cream of the division converged to witness the official unveiling of the championship and trophies presentation that will kick off on August 15, 2026, with a staggering ₦3 million prize fund up for grabs.
Representatives of the various Local Government and Local Council Development Areas stormed the venue in large numbers, a clear indication that the RAK/BDFA League has grown beyond an ordinary competition into a movement capable of uniting communities through football.
The biggest applause of the day was reserved for Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the pioneer of the RAK Foundation and Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, who arrived with poise and confidence befitting a man whose vision has transformed the football landscape of the Badagry Division.
Speaking passionately at the event, Ogunlende declared that the sixth edition would bring “more spice, greater value and unforgettable football moments,” insisting that the competition remains a platform for discovering the next generation of Nigerian stars. Further more he reterated that,
“With the scale, credibility, reach and measurable impact that the league has attained, it has become a marketable sporting brand capable of attracting reputable corporate partners, development agencies and football investors. The responsibility now lies with BDFA to strategically showcase the league’s achievements, its growing fan base, its contribution to youth development and its impressive record of talent discovery to prospective sponsors.
I am confident that with a well-articulated sponsorship strategy, stronger institutional partnerships and effective promotion, future editions of this competition can attract significant corporate investment, resulting in improved prize money, enhanced logistics, better playing facilities, increased media coverage, player insurance, coaching development and wider scouting opportunities for our talented youths.
The vision should be to transform the BDFA–RAK League into the foremost grassroots football competition not only in Lagos State but one that will become a benchmark for grassroots football development across Nigeria and West Africa. This is a vision that is achievable if government, the private sector, football administrators and our communities work together.
To all participating teams, I encourage you to compete with discipline, integrity, respect and the true spirit of sportsmanship. Remember that while trophies may be won by a few, character, friendships and lifelong opportunities are available to everyone who participates with dedication and excellence.
I sincerely appreciate the Badagry Development Football Association, the organizing committee, our coaches, referees, volunteers, security agencies, community leaders, supporters and every stakeholder whose commitment has contributed to the continued success of this competition.

The ceremony also witnessed the presence of the visionary Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Hajia Gafar Liameed, whose commitment to grassroots football development has continued to earn admiration across the state.

and they all received commendation for putting together a seamless press conference and draw ceremony that reflected professionalism and transparency.
The official draws were conducted by Coach Raymond Akaluogbo, who unveiled a competition format that promises fireworks from the opening whistle. According to the organisers, all participating teams will battle fiercely for places in the prestigious Super Eight, which will be staged at the famous Nathaniel Idowu Pitch in Orege, Ajegunle.
In a remarkable show of appreciation, every club that qualifies for the Super Eight will receive customised crested jerseys bearing the RAK Foundation logo, adding prestige and identity to the elite phase of the tournament.
The grand finale will return to Badagry, with Badagry Grammar School selected as the venue for the championship decider. The organisers revealed that the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, alongside top sports administrators and key stakeholders in Nigerian football, will grace the final showdown.
With history, prestige, community pride and millions of naira on the line, the countdown has begun. On August 15, Badagry will not just witness another football competition—it will witness a war for supremacy, where dreams will be born, reputations will be made and only the strongest will survive the road to the Super Eight.
