    COMMUNIQUE OF THE EXTRA ORDINARY CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA BASKETBALL FEDERATION, HELD AT THE CITY GREEN HOTEL, YOLA, ADAMAWA STATE, ON THE 25TH OF SEPTEMBER, 2026.

     

    The 2026 Extra Ordinary Congress of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, successfully held at the City Green Hotel , Yola, Adamawa State, on the 25th of September, 2026.

    39 out of the 44 delegates of the NBBF congress were in full attendance.

    1) In his opening remarks, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, was full of praise and appreciation to the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu , for fully redeeming all of the promises he made to the D’Tigress of Nigeria, after winning the prestigious Afrobasket Championships for an unprecedented 5th time, under the leadership of Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida , and to remain unbeaten on the African  continent for over 8 years now.

    2)  The NBBF President thanked the Governor and people of Adamawa state, the chief host of the Congress, the Adamawa state Basketball Association, the Director of sports and the organ in charge of sports in the state for agreeing to host the extra ordinary congress at such a short notice and for giving huge logistical supports.

    3) The President thanked the very able leadership of the National Sports Commission , Mallam Shehu Dikko and  the , DG Chief Bukola Olopade, for their unwavering support towards the tremendous growth and stability of the NBBF.

    4) The president enumerated all the challenges that bedeviled the NBBF since 2017 and some still exist till today and assured the Congress that the Federation has always come out stronger on each occasion. He assured that contrary to news making the rounds about his ambitions, that he has never been part of subverting the NBBF approved constitution in seeking a third term, and that he intends to ensure a free, fair and transparent elections to the next Board, 2026 to 2030. He urged all those that are interested in elective positions to feel free to contest and urged  that all politicking to be done with honour and dignity,  and avoid derogatory and defamatory comments against each other.

    5) The Secretary General presented  her updated activities report to the Congress and  was approved

    5) The 2024, 2025 and 2926 financial reports of the NBBF were presented to the Congress and approved.

    6)The recommendations for the 2026 Electoral Processes were presented to the Congress and the following decisions were reached:

    a) The Congress unanimously approved that the Elective congress will hold on the 15th of October, 2026 in Abuja, the FCT, at 10am

    b) The Congress also approved that elections into the Technical representative, Players representative and other affiliate bodies, and will all hold in Abuja, the FCT, between the 7th to the 14th of October, 2026.

    c) The Congress approved the constitution of a 7 man electoral committee as below:

    i) Dr Lanre Glover- Chairman

    ii) Sr Femi Olugbile – Member

    iii) Alh. Sani Fema – Member

    iv) Engr Priscilla Ngozi Iroaganachi- Member

    v) Major General David Lubo- Member

    vi) Mallam Farouk Yarma – Member

    vii) Barr. Ichene  Kalu- Secretary

    d) The Congress also approved the Constitution of a 3 man Elections Appeals Committee as below:

    i) Barr. Emmanuel Okibe – Chairman

    ii) Ms Chichi Nwoko- Member

    iii) Mr Emmanuel Zira – Secretary
