The congregation of hundreds of Egba sons and daughters, under the auspices of Egba National Association from 20 chapters of the organisation in the USA and Canada, is meeting in Nigeria for celebrations marking the 10th Biennial Convention holding in their ancestral home in Abeokuta for the first time.
It is a feeling of a totally different kind to be amongst your kith and kin, some of the crème de La crème of Egbaland at home and abroad, rekindling feelings and relationships amongst some of their own.
For the past two hours, I have been thoroughly humbled by the experience, listening to the richest renditions of the Egba Yoruba dialect, in poetry recitals, music and citations!
All the surviving kings of Egbaland are present representing the best and some of the most sophisticated traditions and culture in the world.
With the setting here, this night has only just begun.
