OI Foundation Nigeria Marks 10 Years of Impact with Landmark National Awareness, Family Support & Inclusion Conference

Three-day celebration to spotlight research, healthcare, mobility, family support and inclusion for people living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta

The Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation Nigeria (OIF Nigeria) is set to mark a decade of service to humanity with a major three-day National Osteogenesis Imperfecta Awareness, Family Support & Inclusion Conference 2026, bringing together families, healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, community leaders, volunteers and partners.

The landmark programme, themed β€œAdvancing Care and Research in Osteogenesis Imperfecta,” will hold from September 10 to 12, 2026, across Ibadan and Lagos, with the organisers describing the gathering as a celebration of hope, strength and resilience.

The 10th anniversary comes as OIF Nigeria continues to champion greater awareness, access to care, family support and social inclusion for individuals and families affected by Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a condition associated with fragile bones and complex healthcare and mobility needs.

Ibadan Opens Three Days of Impact

The first day, Thursday, September 10, will feature the National OI Awareness & Family Support Conference in Ibadan, Oyo State, from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

The conference will focus on advancing healthcare and clinical care, current and emerging research, diagnosis and treatment, family support, psychosocial wellbeing, disability inclusion, accessibility and sustainable OI care pathways.

It is also expected to provide a platform for families and people living with OI to share their experiences while engaging professionals, researchers, advocates and policymakers on the future of OI care in Nigeria.

Lagos Takes Centre Stage on Care and Mobility

The second day, Friday, September 11, moves to Lagos for a practical Care, Assessment, Training & Mobility Support Day.

According to the programme, participants will have access to training and capacity building, medical treatment and care support, health and functional assessments, counselling and psychosocial support, physical therapy and mobility assessments.

One of the major highlights will be mobility support and wheelchair distribution, targeted at eligible beneficiaries following appropriate assessment.

The initiative underscores the foundation’s emphasis on independence, accessibility, dignity and participation for people living with OI.

Grand Finale: Ten Years of Service

The three-day programme will climax on Saturday, September 12, with the Grand 10th Anniversary Gala & Awards Celebration, scheduled for 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

The gala will recognise individuals and organisations whose contributions have advanced advocacy, inclusion, healthcare, research, community leadership, family and caregiver support, humanitarian service and accessibility.

Awards will also honour outstanding community members, healthcare and professional service providers, corporate and organisational partners, and individuals who have gone above and beyond in serving humanity.

A Decade of Hope and Resilience

Beyond the anniversary celebration, the 2026 conference represents a renewed call for stronger collaboration around OI in Nigeria.

With the participation of people living with OI, parents and caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, disability advocates, government representatives, faith and community leaders, volunteers, corporate partners and the wider OI community, the organisers hope to create meaningful conversations capable of translating awareness into action.

The foundation’s core messageβ€”Hope, Strength, Resilience, Inclusion, Mobility and Dignityβ€”captures the spirit behind the anniversary programme.

As OIF Nigeria celebrates 10 years of service, the organisation is positioning the milestone not merely as a look back at its achievements, but as a platform to build a more inclusive future where people living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta can access appropriate care, mobility support, dignity and opportunities to live fuller lives.

Ten years of service. A lifetime of impact. And a renewed commitment to empowering lives, building inclusion and creating hope.
