1X Cup enters crunch group stage as survivors chase glory
The race for the coveted 1X Cup crown is set to enter its most explosive phase as the tournament moves into the group stage on Tuesday, September 15, with 24 teams remaining from the over 100 sides that embarked on the grassroots football journey.

From community pitches to the decisive qualifying battles, these 24 survivors have already proved their quality, resilience and hunger. But with the group stage now upon them, the real test begins.
The 1X Cup 2026, regarded by organisers as one of Nigeriaβs biggest community-based grassroots competitions, is expected to produce even greater drama, intense rivalry and emerging talents as the teams battle for places in the knockout rounds.
The group-stage draw was conducted on September 11, with matches scheduled to run from September 15 to October 8.
WHAT TO EXPECT
With qualification already secured, the 24 teams cannot afford to rest on their achievements. Every match will carry enormous significance, with points, goals and consistency likely to determine who advances.
Football lovers should expect high-intensity encounters, tactical battles, emerging stars, surprise results and fierce competition as the teams fight to establish themselves among the tournament’s elite.
For many of the players, the group stage will also represent an opportunity to attract attention from scouts and football stakeholders watching the competition for promising grassroots talents.
ORGANISERS SET STRICT RULES
All participating teams have been reminded to arrive at their venues 90 minutes before kick-off for verification and warm-up.
Each of the 25 registered players must use the official 1X Cup-branded bibs, while players warming up and substitutes on the bench are required to wear the bibs throughout.
