…Fortune FA, Bright Stars and Divinely Blessed Win as Valentine Aniako and Ugwuokolie Chidalu Hit Hat-tricks
LAGOS β The Nathaniel Idowu U-16 Football League 2026 began with fireworks on Saturday, 5th September, as 5 matches across Tolu and Oregie produced 22 goals and a host of talking points in a thrilling start to the season.
Organised by Peakline Sports World under DG McAnthony Anaelechukwu and sponsored by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation founded by Chief Yemi Idowu, the league once again underlined its role as a developmental platform for scouting and grooming Nigeriaβs next generation of football stars.
With players graduating from the U-14 category, Matchday 1 delivered pace, goals, comebacks and individual brilliance at an average of 4.4 goals per game.
FORTUNE FA SURVIVE SCARE TO START DEFENCE
At the New Maracana Sports Complex, Tolu, defending U-14 champions Fortune FA began life in U-16 with a gritty 2-1 win over debutants St Petersburg FA.
St Petersburg, playing their first Peakline Sports World competition, shocked everyone after just 42 seconds through Tajudeen Abdulrazaq. But Fortune, who retained 90% of their U-14 title-winning squad, responded in the second half.
The game turned on two substitutes. Lateef Wasiu set up Ibrahim Olaoye for the 63rd minute equalizer, before Olaoye returned the favour for Odesola Odunayo β U-14 Player of the Tournament β to score the 70th minute winner. Odesola was named Man of the Match.
BRIGHT STARS DEMOLISH SERAPHIC; ANIAKO NETS HAT-TRICK
Bright Stars Sports Academy, run by GM Coach Ibojo, sent out the strongest statement of the day with a 5-1 thrashing of Seraphic FC, the team of Zion Church.
Omotomiwa Odugbesan converted a 1st minute penalty before Valentine Aniako took over. The forward scored in the 35th minute and then completed a ruthless second-half hat-trick with goals in the 52nd and 60th minutes. Akachukwu Igwe made it 5-0 before Aboh Fred grabbed a consolation for Seraphic. Valentine walked away with Man of the Match.
SC HERITAGE STAGE LATE ESCAPE AGAINST MOORE WINS
Debutants SC Heritage showed character to salvage a 2-2 draw against Moore Wins Foundation FA who finished 6th in the U-14 league.
Moore Wins led early through Oyebande Fawaz on 2 minutes and restored their lead via Israel Igoh on 65 minutes. But SC Heritage, who also missed a first-half penalty, refused to lie down. Jonathan Norbert scored in the 85th and 90th minutes to earn a point and Man of the Match on debut.
AJEGUNLE UNITED AND YOUNG ELEVEN SHARE RIVALRY SPOILS
At the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch, Oregie, Ajegunle United SC and Young Eleven FA played out a cagey 1-1 draw.
Ajegunle, who beat Young Eleven to a Super 4 spot in U-14, took the lead through Solomon Jamesβ 7th minute penalty. Amos Gideon equalized 3 minutes later from the spot as well. The game was decided by defensive discipline, with Ajegunleβs Kolawole Ayomide named Man of the Match for a commanding performance.
DIVINELY BLESSED OUTGUN ATICO IN 7-GOAL THRILLER
The match of the day came in Oregie as Divinely Blessed FA edged debutants Atico Football Academy 4-3.
Divinely Blessed, 8th in U-14, flew out of the blocks. Ugwuokolie Chidalu scored after just *6 seconds, added another on 17 minutes and completed his hat-trick on 70 minutes. Taofeek Saoban also scored to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Atico fought back through a Timilehin Ajomale brace and a Segun Adeyeye 90th minute strike, but fell short. Chidaluβs heroics earned him Man of the Match.
